SCIENCE FICTION QUARTERLY (Nov. 1957)

Here are some highlights from the November 1957 issue (Vol. 5, #3) of SCIENCE FICTION QUARTERLY, edited by Robert A. W. Lowndes and published by Columbia Publications.  The cover is by Ed Emsh (a.k.a Ed Emshwiller).  The big B&W interior illo shown was drawn by Peter Poulton, for Manly Banister's cover-featured tale, "Escape to Earth."

The "Inside Science Fiction" column is especially interesting because of its recognition of the 25th anniversary of the early SF fanzine The Time Traveller (from 1932) and the reviews of then-current (1957) SF fanzines.  (Including one that had an early article about comics by Jim Harmon, and a fanzine published by Bill Pearson, later publisher of witzend.)

The lettercol contains a long back-and-forth between editor Lowndes and reader Dr. Raymond Wallace, and ends (on the last page) with a letter from the newly-pro writer Harlan Ellison.  Also shown here are some house ads, including one depicting Edward Hoch's long-running mystery character Simon Ark.

As always, click each image to view them at larger size...
